'West of England Bandsmen's Festival' Fourth Section Champions 2009
Below are the remarks made by the Adjudicator Steven Mead at the West of England Bandsmen's Festival at Bugle. As you know from the Latest News the band came 1st in the Fourth Section. Here is what the adjudicator thought...
WEST OF ENGLAND BANDSMEN’S FESTIVAL

Fourth Section Band Number 2 Marks 83
Test Piece "West Sou' West" Saturday 20th June 2009 Position 1
Bold energetic start, all cross rhythms heard, occasionally loose some bass
notes. Slightly unsure just before (A)
Balance between sections is fine, nothing overblown either.
Precision into (D) excellent.
(D) itself has some untidy moments. Troms do well
(E) Smooth, and flows well,- individual lines clearly audible. Long note
section before (G) could be more tranquil. (G) Accurate and confident
sop. - Horns do well too.
(H) Difficult music, but this goes well, some muted tuning disturbs, just a
little.
Troms. Not completely happy with important before (J)
(J) more sustained throughout in the band, a bit too breathy.
Piu Mosso - Bravo! - hard work paying off!
(M) cornet tuning not great here., but full band playing is quite impressive,
with strengths all round the stand.
Some small strains towards end, but all in all a well prepared
performance, expertly directed and with fine solo and section
contributions.
